Anti-freeze agents for coal from Zyrax
In winter time coal carriers often face such a problem as freezing. Coal wagons with a moisture content of more than 5% freeze when transported over long distances. This leads to the following negative consequences:
● the unloading of coal becomes much more difficult, even if the frozen layer is only 30-40 centimetres;
● ice film appears on conveyors and loading systems, which may cause the conveyors to slip;
Piles of frozen coal can fall during unloading and damage equipment;
● the recipients of the shipment often file claims against the suppliers after receiving the frozen rock;
● delivery costs are increased due to long wagon idle times waiting for the coal to melt and be ready for unloading;

As a variant of anti-freeze treatment, the floor and walls of wagons are treated with mineral or coal oil. A significant disadvantage of this method is the need for personal protective equipment for treatment and the difficulty of subsequent cleaning of wagons from oils.

● the amount of moisture between particles and on the surface;
● the size of the particles;
● the time between loading and unloading;
● method of loading;
● air temperature and precipitation;
● condition of vehicles;
● frost depth of the material.

APPLICATION - ANTI-FREEZE
Zirax is normally sprayed on bulk materials to ensure their ability to freeze and on walls and bottoms of lorries and hoppers to prevent adhesion or sticking. The amount of Zirax required to provide freeze protection depends on the following factors: the amount of moisture on the surface (i.e. moisture between material particles), the particle size and percentage of fines, the time between loading and unloading in transit or storage, temperature and precipitation during transit or storage, and the effectiveness of the treatment. |
